Alabama Athletics announced last week that the full home season ticket package for the 2026 season will be $300, plus a $6 fee. This is a $50 increase from the 2025 season and a $175 increase from 2024.
Some students say they believe that football tickets should not be as expensive because the sport is a part of the college experience, especially when other SEC schools such as The University of Tennessee offer individual student tickets for $25 and The University of Georgia offers student packages for less than $100. The University of South Carolina and Vanderbilt University provide students with free tickets for football games.
Over the last six years, student ticket package prices, including the $6 handling fee, have more than doubled, from $131 in 2021 to $306 in 2026.
Jade Williams, a junior majoring in criminology and criminal justice, said it was “really disheartening” to hear that the student package prices continue to increase, making it more difficult for students to purchase their tickets.
“You can expect a little increase year to year,” said Anna Kate Keating, a senior majoring in biology. “Just across my entire college experience, it has gone up every single year.”
Although some students believe that the price increase each year is unreasonable for college students, they still fork up the funds to support the Crimson Tide and get to experience Bryant-Denny Stadium.
“I’m still gonna buy the games, but maybe just the big games,” said Trace Witt, a freshman majoring in civil engineering.
While the price change is frustrating for most, there are some students who are financially independent and would be unable to afford a ticket package, causing them to miss out on a big University tradition, Williams said.
Alabama Athletics did not respond to a request for comment.
Whitt said that if students are expected to pay more for tickets each season, then he expects the team to win more.
“If we’re putting more money in then I want to see us win even the big games, little games, whatever,” Whitt said. “We can’t keep losing to random teams.”
The Crimson Tide held a 11-4 overall season record for the 2025 season, which had some huge wins against SEC rival teams, including the Tennessee Volunteers and the Auburn Tigers. However, the Crimson Tide also lost to Florida State University, the University of Oklahoma and Indiana University at the Rose Bowl.
“Of course there is nothing like being in Bryant-Denny with all of your friends, and all the traditions that happen on game day,” Keating said. “But, we have been a little rockier, and a little more unpredictable in our seasons. So, I don’t think that it is necessarily a great excuse to totally increase the prices on students.”
