Texas Ford Aquatics’ Jonah Ruhl has announced his commitment to the Hoosiers of Indiana University as a part of the 2027 recruiting class.
I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Indiana University! I would like to thank God, my family, Coach Coley, my teammates, and every coach along the way who has helped me get to where I am today. Ruhl represents Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, where he recently finished runner-up in the 100 freestyle at the UIL 6A State Championships with a lifetime-best effort of 44.58. That time just surpassed his former best from the Speedo Winter Junior Championships in December, where he clocked 44.63. He also finished 4th in the 200 IM in 1:48.94, marking just his 2nd time ever under 1:49 in the event. This meet capped off a season in which Ruhl helped lead his team to an unblemished 9-0 dual meet record and anchored his 200 free relay to a runner-up state championship finish with a 20.11 split.
He broke 1:49 in the 200 IM for the first time at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships West in December, where he swam a lifetime best of 1:48.44. He also swam a major best time in the 200 free, dropping over two seconds from his previous best of 1:40.67 from December of 2024. Ruhl also clocked his fastest-ever 50 free as the leadoff leg of the TFA 200 free relay in 20.34, which helped catapult the relay to a 3rd-place finish at these championships.
Ruhl also holds some distance skills, having been as fast as 4:35.68 in the 500 free at the Texas Age Group Short Course Championships in March of 2024. He also has some skill outside of hyst free and IM, boasting a 100 breaststroke best time of 56.45 from the Dynamo Eastern Classic in January.

Based on his best times, Ruhl would have finished 31st in the 200 free, 34th in the 100 free, and 40th in the 500 free.
Ruhl still has more than a full season until he makes his collegiate debut, has already shown that he has room to improve, and will need to if he wants to get himself into scoring range.
His freestyle ability could be a big factor in future IU relays, especially the 800 free, if he can get himself into that low 1:32 range. Considering three of the four legs from that 2026 relay will be gone by the time that Ruhl gets on campus, Head Coach Ray Looze will be actively looking to find those replacements throughout the next few seasons.
His 100 breast is well off from what we have seen from IU swimmers over the years. Still, as just a high school junior, if he chooses to take the breaststroke route, he has a more-than-acceptable base skill set that could be molded into one of Indiana’s signature breaststroke talents.
Ruhl joins Andrew Malaj, Brady Campbell, Blake TeBeest, and Jackson Edwards in the Hoosiers 2027 recruiting class.
