Gale-force winds and snow are set to batter parts of the UK over the Easter weekend as Storm Dave hits Britain’s shores.
People travelling for the Bank Holiday are advised to take note of the stormy conditions and plan their journeys accordingly, with substantial disruption expected across the country.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind covering the entire Scottish mainland, Northern Ireland, and large swathes of the North of England and Wales.
These warnings come into effect from this afternoon and remain in place until Sunday morning.
Parts of northern Scotland have been warned to expect rain and snow along with gales in a separate yellow weather warning.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Storm Dave brings a spell of very strong winds Saturday into Easter Sunday morning, which may cause some damage and travel disruption.”
The storm will be at its most vicious this evening, when winds could reach up to 90mph in the most exposed areas.
Dangerous conditions could be seen in some areas due to flying debris and the risk of large waves striking the coast.
However, Storm Dave will begin to peter out on Sunday morning as it moves towards the North Sea.

“Whilst there is some uncertainty over the exact track, intensity and shape of this area of low pressure, a period of strong west to southwesterly winds is expected during Saturday night and into the first part of Easter Sunday, before gradually easing through the day.”
The forecaster warned residents and visitors of substantial transport disruption to roads, rail, air and ferries due to the storm.
Power cuts and disruption to mobile phone coverage are also an active risk during the stormy weather.
‘Substantial’ travel disruption over Easter weekend
The RAC predicted this would be the busiest Easter Weekend for road traffic since 2022.
George Fiddes from Transport Scotland said: “Storm Dave is a timely reminder that we can face challenging weather conditions at any time of year, not just during the winter period.
“The Met Office warnings show high winds will impact the whole country this weekend, with the prospect of some areas also being affected by heavy rain and snow, so I’m urging people to plan ahead if they are travelling over the Easter period.
“Motorists should check their planned routes before setting off.”
Residents in affected areas are advised to secure loose items outside their homes that could cause damage if caught in high winds, such as bins, garden furniture and trampolines.

Scottish police have urged HGV and bus drivers to exercise “extreme caution” when taking to the roads during the storm.
Met Office deputy chief forecaster, Tom Crabtree, said: “Storm Dave will form and rapidly deepen on Saturday as it approaches the UK from the west.
“By Saturday afternoon, winds will strengthen significantly, with gusts of 60-70mph expected at times across parts of Scotland with the potential for gusts of 80-90mph in exposed coastal locations in Scotland.
“Gusts of 50-60mph are likely more widely in northern Britain.
“As well as strong winds, Storm Dave will also bring heavy snowfall over the hills in northern Scotland, where up to 10-20cm of snow could accumulate.”
