Humphrey’s productive day started early, as she opened the scoring less than four minutes into the game to five the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead. She would score again 5:25 later as Carolina began the game on a 6-0 run and led 6-1 after the first quarter. Humphrey secured a hat trick just 20 seconds into the second quarter, the netted two more goals before halftime to give UNC a 12-2 edge.

The one-sided scoreboard didn’t tell the whole story. Virginia had several chances around the UNC net with eight shots on goal in the first half, but Tar Heel goalie Betty Nelson made six saves to keep the Cavaliers stuck on two goals. Carolina stretched its lead to 16-2 in the third quarter, and this time the dominance was real: Virginia had just one total shot – and none on goal – un the 15-minute period.

Humphrey’s seven goals mark another chapter in an incredible streak for the redshirt sophomore from Connecticut. Since a relatively quiet two-goal outing in a March 12 win at Cal, Humphrey has scored at least five goals in four consecutive games: eight against Boston College, six against Northwestern, five against East Carolina and seven against Virginia. She now has 64 goals in 12 games this season after scoring 90 in 22 games in 2025.

Friday’s win also marks the sixth time this season UNC has held an opponent to four or fewer goals in a game. The Tar Heels have outscored their most recent two opponents 42-7.

Carolina is now 11-1 on the season and 8-0 in ACC play. UNC will return to Chapel Hill for its final home game of the regular season Friday, April 10 when it hosts No. 9 Stanford at Dorrance Field at 6 p.m.
