Gymnastics set to take the NCAA regionals stage ...Middle East

News by : (The Crimson White) -

The ‘big dance’ for the NCAA gymnastics teams to be crowned 2026 national champions starts this weekend. Regionals are this weekend, and the national championship is set for April 16-18.

There are four regional host sites: Oregon State University, Louisiana State University, University of Kentucky and Arizona State University. At each regional site, nine teams compete.

With nine teams there must be an entry round between two teams to enter the eight team bracket. The eight team bracket is split into four quad-meet sessions, with the top two from each team heading to the regional championships. The top two from each regional championship head to the national championships.

“Our team is extremely excited to head out to Corvallis this week,” Alabama head coach Ashley Johnston said. “We’re focused right now on our Friday night competition, going in being Bama and doing what we do best.”

The No. 5 Alabama gymnastics is set to compete in the NCAA regionals at Corvallis, Oregon. Alabama will compete in session one at 3 p.m. CT against No. 12 Utah, Denver and Oregon State. The evening session will consist of No. 4 UCLA, No. 13 Minnesota, Iowa and the winner of San Jose St. and Washington from Thursday night.

Of the teams at the regional, Alabama has only competed against Oregon State thus far this season and won by a margin of more than one point. If Alabama competes like it did against Oregon State earlier in the season, it will be sure to beat the Beavers by a decent margin again.

Utah has a National Qualifying Score of 197.075 and Denver has a NQS of 196.383. To ensure the Crimson Tide ends up on top of both teams at the end of competition, it will need to make sure there are stuck landings and no falls.

Previously in the season, Alabama had a few weeks where there were several falls on beam, and in the postseason there is no room for that. However, even with these falls, Alabama is one of two teams in the country that has scored over 197 this whole season. No. 1 Oklahoma is the only other team to do so.

“Normalizing the hard moments are how we best prepare for those,” Johnston said. “We’ve shown that we absolutely have the ability to hang with the top teams in the country.”
