Blackhawks 1, Oilers 3 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

I think it’s safe to say the Blackhawks survived the first period. They were out-shot 12-6 and killed an Oilers’ power play pretty well. Spencer Knight was really good; he faced a high danger chance 53 seconds into the game. Heading to the first intermission tied at zeroes was a win for the Hawks.

The Blackhawks carried 84 seconds of power play time over to start the second period — with Connor McDavid in the box. The Blackhawks didn’t convert. At 3:18 into the second, Arvid Söderblom had to come into the game because of an equipment issue for Knight. Söderblom was in the game for almost five minutes, faced two breakaways and stopped one of them. Knight returned with his equipment fixed. Edmonton’s second goal came with Knight back in the game. The puck went off Knight, hit Alex Vlasic and went into the net. Yeah… one of those.

The Blackhawks got the first goal of the third period and cut Edmonton’s lead in half. And they started to drive more of the play. They hung around as long as they could, but a clearing attempt hit Jason Dickinson, who set up the empty net goal to pad the Oilers’ lead back to two.

Star 1: Nick Lardis

One of the things the Blackhawks coaches talked about Lardis doing more was getting to the greasy areas around the net. Where did he score from tonight? Unfortunately, Lardis got hit on the left hand by a shot with about four minutes left in regulation and looked like he was in pain. He left the bench and went to the room. Here’s his goal.

Star 2: Spencer Knight

Knight stopped 31 of 32 before heading to the bench for the extra attacker late in the third period. He was superb tonight.

Star 3: Louis Crevier

Crevier was everywhere tonight. He broke up scoring chances, took pucks away and blocked a team-high three shots. Crevier skated 21:03 (27 shifts) of heavy work and was really good. He has really emerged as a bona fide piece for the Blackhawks this year.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) April 3, 2026 Thru two periods, Connor Bedard led the Blackhawks with seven shot attempts (three on goal) and four individual scoring chances. He had also won 9 of 11 faceoffs in 13:13 on the ice. The Blackhawks weren’t generating a lot, but Bedard was active. He had the primary assist on Lardis’ goal. Anton Frondell unloaded a shot on the power play late in the first period that was clocked just shy of 90 mph. His hammer of a shot is going to change so many things for the Blackhawks’ power play in the future as he and Bedard figure out how to co-exist on that unit. Frondell had six shot attempts and two individual scoring chances at the second intermission. You get three guesses who turned the puck over early in the second period, leading to Adam Henrique’s breakaway goal. The first two don’t count. After that turnover, André Burakovsky skated only 92 seconds of the final 14 minutes of the second period. He only got three shifts in the third period. As the game progressed we saw Teuvo Teräväinen getting more time with Bedard and Lardis. Frank Nazar saw time with Ryan Greene and Ryan Donato. That “third” line had some good juice in the third period. Kevin Korchinski had another much better game. He’s looked more physically mature in this call-up. He’s used his body well and continues to be an exceptional skater. Not a finished product, but I’m seeing positive steps. I think his familiarity with Ethan Del Mastro from their time in Rockford has helped both of them. Landon Slaggert got a nice look at a short-handed scoring chance in the first period. He’s been really good on the PK since the trade deadline. Slaggert was your hits leader for the Blackhawks with two after the opening 20 minutes, one of which came at the expense of Dickinson. The Blackhawks challenged a third goal in the second period was an offside play by the Oilers, and were successful. The two assists on the insurance goal for Edmonton went to Dickinson and Connor Murphy. Touché.
