Travis Kelce Insisted He Wasn’t ‘Going Out Like This’ After Chiefs Struggled Last Season, Team’s GM Says | People

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach revealed the conversation he had with his star tight end after the Chiefs failed to make the playoffs last season and said Kelce insisted he wasn’t “going out like this.”

“I think there was more doubt in the middle of the season,” Veach said of Kelce, 36, potentially retiring on an episode of The Schrager Hour released on Tuesday, March 31.

Veach said that once the Chiefs concluded their season, following quarterback Patrick Mahomes tearing his ACL, Kelce said something to him during an exit interview that implied the tight end would return for another season.

Will Chiefs run more under center with Kenneth Walker III? What Andy Reid said | The Athletic

The Walker addition also doesn’t change the fact that the Chiefs will be looking to run more downhill in 2026. General manager Brett Veach hinted at this in February during the NFL combine, saying the team needed to lean more on its interior three offensive linemen (Kingsley Suamataia, Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith) in attempting to “impose your will on an opposing team’s defense.”

The statement suggests the Chiefs want to be more aggressive in their run game, likely shifting from being one of the NFL’s top run-pass option (RPO) teams to focusing on schemes that more often get run blockers downfield.

Regardless of how Walker is deployed, Reid shared excitement Tuesday about adding his playmaking to the backfield. The Chiefs struggled to create explosive plays in 2025, mustering just one 20-plus-yard carry from a running back.

“He adds another element to the offense, another something you can throw at the defense, which is important,” Reid said. “And he’s legit. He can take it the distance every time he touches the ball. There’s that threat.”

Report: New York Giants attempted to acquire Drue Tranquill from Chiefs | Giants Wire

“The linebacker that the Giants actually were going to trade for, from the Kansas City Chiefs — it seemed to be before the start of free agency — Drue Tranquill,” Raanan said on the Breaking Big Blue podcast. “He ended up staying in Kansas City, taking a pay cut to stay. Seems to be something he wanted to do. He didn’t want to leave there.”

At the time of his initial report in March, Raanan didn’t reveal a name, leading many to speculate about Nick Bolton and Fred Warner.

Tranquill, who restructured his contract with the Chiefs by reducing his base salary from $6 million to $3.5 million, prioritized remaining with the organization where he has contributed to a Super Bowl-winning defense. The trade discussions ultimately dissolved as Tranquill decided not to move late in his career.

Could Chiefs select a receiver at No. 9 in NFL Draft? In our mock 3.0, they do | The Kansas City Star

Round 3, Pick 74: Oklahoma defensive tackle Gracen Halton

Kansas City solved its nose tackle need by signing Khyiris Tonga in free agency, but it could still add an interior defensive lineman with some pass-rush juice to the mix.

Second-year defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott could be back for training camp after missing roughly half of the 2025 season due to injury, but we know Spagnuolo and defensive line coach Joe Cullen love to rotate these guys, anyway.

Halton is unlikely to play on first down right away, but he could serve as an early disruptor on passing downs. Over four seasons at Oklahoma, he totaled 8.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss.

2026 NFL Draft: Ideal top two picks for every team | NFL.com

Round 1: No. 9 overall: Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

Round 1: No. 29 overall: Malachi Lawrence, Edge, UCF

Chiefs fans weren’t crazy about the Delane-Lawrence pairing in my last mock, but they’d be getting the top corner in the draft and a rush project who fits their mold well. My thinking was that it would be harder finding a corner of Delane’s caliber at the end of Round 1, and I suspect they’ll draft multiple players at the position. With picks coming at Nos. 40 and 74, the Chiefs can afford to gamble on Lawrence’s upside and swing back later for help at tackle, receiver and possibly tight end.

Chiefs bamboozle fans with hilariously epic April Fools’ Day stunt | Chiefs Wire

So, on April 1, when the Chiefs announced that they were rolling out an Andy Reid disguise that would retail for $15.87, many of Kansas City’s fans didn’t bat an eye at the team’s latest innovation.

That was, of course, until the Chiefs reversed course to reveal that the Groucho Marx-styled mask was but an elaborate April Fools’ Day joke:

While this piece of deep-cut paraphernalia is set to become the latest Leon Sandcastle in Kansas City sports lore, the Chiefs won’t be inclined to spend the month of April playing jokes. With two picks to make in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Kansas City has plenty of work to do as spring takes hold of Western Missouri.

20. 2019 Houston Texans

The Setup

With a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter, the Houston Texans were firmly in control of their AFC Divisional Round matchup against a Kansas City Chiefs team that was still searching for its first Super Bowl title in 50 years.

The Collapse

The Chiefs put 41 unanswered points on the board before the Texans scored again in the closing seconds of the third quarter. Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes during that decisive stretch, and the Texans offense ground to a halt.

After the Chiefs scored 10 more unanswered points in the fourth quarter, the Texans were sent packing in one of the most stunning losses in recent playoff history.

Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is in rehab, attorney says | ESPN

McCathern said Nacua is going to rehab in an attempt “to improve his overall behavior in every aspect of his life.”

McCathern said in a statement to NFL Network that Nacua “will complete the program in plenty of time to be involved in all of the Rams OTAs.”

At the NFL’s annual league meeting earlier this week, coach Sean McVay said the Rams have been aware of the incident since it happened on New Year’s Eve and are “continuing to gather all the information.”

NFLPA’s JC Tretter opposes replacement officials, cites safety concerns in joint statement | The Athletic

NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter voiced disapproval of the NFL’s potential use of replacement officials in 2026, citing concerns for player safety, in a joint statement released by the NFLPA and NFL Referees Association on Wednesday.

“Player safety requires trained, professional officials on the field,” Tretter said in the release. “They manage the game in real time, enforce the rules, and stop situations from escalating. That can’t be replaced by less experienced crews or handled remotely. If player safety truly matters, trained professional officials on the field are not negotiable.”

Negotiations between the league and the referees’ union have stalled with the current collective bargaining agreement expiring on May 31. Over the past week, the NFL has taken steps to prepare for the use of replacement officials in the event of a work stoppage by the NFLRA.

Inside Eagles’ 2025 friction as Jalen Hurts stands at crossroads | ESPN

As one team source recalled, Hurts was the one who recommended four verts. A separate source with knowledge of the situation says that though the Eagles’ quarterback did suggest it, he was simply responding to a question about his preferences.

Either way, not everyone with the offense was thrilled.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is not happening,’” the team source said. “We can’t run four verts.”

Though it’s unclear what other plays were considered, if any, Sirianni ultimately approved Hurts’ suggestion. Within seconds, the plan — and a premature offseason vacation — was in motion.

Former NFL DT Gerald McCoy sees Rueben Bain as an All-Pro with Chiefs

Long-time defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, a six-time Pro Bowl selection with three instances on an All-Pro team, assured optimists of Bain’s profile that he “will be just fine with the right coaches” in an X post. In the same thought, he pointed to Chiefs’ defensive line coach Joe Cullen, guaranteeing an All-Pro career for Bain if he works with the veteran position coach.

Cullen was the defensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, working with McCoy for two of his prime years. The all-time Buccaneer was already one of the elite defensive tackles in the NFL when Cullen joined the staff, but the coach clearly left a positive impression on McCoy.
