Two-time Olympian Daniel Jervis made a special appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs the World, where he underwent a full transformation alongside American Drag Queen Mariah Balenciaga.
Jervis retired from swimming in February of 2025, bringing to an end a career that included two Olympic appearances, four World Championship appearances, and 11 national titles.
On the show, Jervis explained how he was hesitant to announce his sexuality to the public until he was 26 years old, having openly come out as gay to his family two years earlier.
He also touched on his upbringing in a Christian community, sharing that when he came out, his church was very accepting of him.
“I was very blessed when I came out. My church didn’t change towards me. For me, that’s acceptance.” Jervis said in a report from the BBC.

Before going on the show, Jervis decided to give his all to this challenge, telling the BBC that he wants to show “respect” for the world of drag and what they do. Even after he asked his father whether he should go through with the appearance, his dad replied, “Only do it if you’re going to give it 100%.”
He mentioned that his participation in the show would be “seen by millions of people” and that he hopes it could give audiences who can relate to his situation a sense of comfort.
“I have so much respect for these queens and I know if they were coming into my world, I’d want them to give it 100% and respect what I do.” Jervis said in a report from the BBC. “It’s the other way around, I’m going into their world and I want to give 100% and respect what they do.”
Jervis also added that he felt a sense of belonging and an overwhelming sense of inclusion and comfort.
“I’ve never felt so included and comfortable around a group of people in my life. They were from all around the world and so welcoming to us.”
Jervis most recently competed at the Olympic Games in Paris, where he finished 15th in the 1500 freestyle in 15:03.75. He also earned a pair of Commonwealth Championships medals while representing Wales in both 2014 (1500 free bronze) and 2018 (1500 free silver).
