In a sit-down with Mike Klis of 9News, Broncos general manager George Paton revealed that quarterback Bo Nix is ahead of schedule in his recovery from ankle surgery after it occurred in January.
Nix’s injury sucked the wind out of the sails of the Broncos Super Bowl aspirations, where they fell short to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Almost everybody holds the belief that if Nix plays in that game, Denver at least advances to the Super Bowl.
Instead, Nix and the Broncos faced a reset, and for Denver’s franchise quarterback, that meant attacking rehab.
The Broncos will start their offseason program in the first week of May, and Paton told Klis that Bo will be ready to go for it.
“He’s ahead of schedule,” Paton said to Klis. “He’s running, he’s jumping. Really proud of how he’s attacked rehab. He’s done a great job. He’ll be ready for OTAs.”
That’s the best news possible for everyone wondering about Bo’s status. Back after the AFC Championship concluded, Nix did indicate that his recovery timeline was not what was being widely reported by Adam Schefter and others, and that he would be fully ready to go by the time he normally begins training.
That timeline is right now, as he’s begun training while also staying on strength training and maintenance after ankle surgery back in January.
When the team takes the field for football activities at the end of May or beginning of June, Nix will have a new shiny weapon to throw to after the team traded for Jaylen Waddle.
