Winter Juniors qualifier Brooke Dynes has announced her verbal commitment to compete for the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2026. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am beyond grateful and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Utah! First and foremost, I’d like to thank my family, friends, and teammates for their consistent love and support. A huge thank you to my GWA Coach Matt, as well as my high school coaches Amy and Bryan, and all of my past coaches who have helped and guided me along the way. Finally, thank you to Coach Aly, Coach Jonas and the entire U of U coaching staff for believing me and providing me with this incredible opportunity. GO UTES!
A senior at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School in Chardon, Ohio, Dynes has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. In addition to competing for the Lions, she currently trains year-round with Great Waves Aquatics, where she specializes in breaststroke and IM.
Dynes has steadily improved each season of her career, but had her biggest breakthrough over the past 12 months. Last March, she held best times of 1:05.53 and 2:27.28 in the 100/200 breast and 2:18.62 in the 200 IM. As of March 2026, she has lowered those times to 1:03.22 and 2:18.53 in the breast events and 2:10.17 in the 200 IM, dropping nearly two and a half seconds in the 100 breast, 8.75 seconds in the 200 breast, and 8.45 seconds in the 200 IM.
At Winter Junior Championships – East in December, her first time qualifying for the meet, Dynes placed 47th in the 100 breast (1:03.88) and 50th in the 200 breast (2:20.35), both personal bests at the time.
She carried her momentum into the high school season, where at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division II State Championships, she took fourth in the 100 breast (1:04.00) and ninth in the 200 IM (2:11.21), setting a then-lifetime best of 1:03.68 in the 100 breast prelims and a personal best in the 200 IM final. It was her second consecutive year making any type of final at the meet, following an eighth-place finish in the 100 breast as a junior.
Dynes wrapped up her short course season earlier this month at the Ohio Tim Myers Senior Championships, where she set all of her current best times. She won the state title in the 50 breast (29.29), placed fifth in both the 100 and 200 breast, seventh in the 100 IM (59.68), and 14th in the 200 IM.

100 Breaststroke: 1:03.22 200 Breaststroke: 2:18.53 200 IM: 2:10.17A Division I program, Utah competes in the Big 12 Conference, with the Utes taking seventh out of 10 teams at last month’s conference championships. To earn a second swim at the meet, it took times of 1:03.08/2:17.21 in the 100/200 breast and 2:03.25 in the 200 IM, putting Dynes just outside the breast cutoffs.
On the team’s projected 2026–27 depth chart, factoring in graduations, Dynes is slated to rank fifth in the 100/200 breast and 11th in the 200 IM, bringing added depth to the Utes’ roster. As the sole breaststroke commit, Dynes could find her way onto the team’s medley relays over the next few seasons.
Currently set to join Dynes in Salt Lake City are Avery Whorton (distance free/fly), Linnea Florin (sprint free/fly), Ana Diedrichs (sprint free/back), and Elena Amos (sprint free/fly/back), who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
