Former Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard called for stronger action to address gun violence in Chicago after her father was shot in the city, she said in a post on social media on Thursday.
“This devastating moment only further highlights what many of us already know, and shouldn’t be ignored: the ongoing gun violence in the City of Chicago has made too many of our communities feel unsafe,” Henyard said in the post on Facebook. “It reinforces the urgent need for stronger action and meaningful solutions.”
Ronald Henyard was hospitalized after the shooting, officials said Thursday. His condition was not immediately known.
Henyard went on to call upon Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to “seriously reconsider federal assistance from President Donald J. Trump to help address this crisis and better protect residents of Illinois, particularly in Chicago,” in the post.
Alluding to her time as Dolton’s mayor, Henyard signed the social media post “Super Mayor Tiffany A. Henyard.”
Henyard lost her re-election campaign for Mayor of Dolton by an overwhelming margin to Jason House, a former ally to her administration, in February 2025. Of the 4,400 votes cast in the election, Henyard received 536, while House collected 3,896.
While serving as mayor, Henyard was no stranger to controversy. An hour-long documentary from NBC Chicago titled “Super Mayor: The Cost of Chaos in Dolton,” dives into her rise to power and the controversies that unraveled throughout her time as mayor, including concerns over the spending of taxpayer dollars that led to an ongoing federal investigation.
Henyard most recently made headlines when she announced she would be re-starting her political career by running for office in Georgia.
