Florida is the only No. 1 seed that didn’t advance to the Sweet 16, as the Gators were shocked 73-72 by the Iowa Hawkeyes thanks to a late three-pointer from Alvaro Folgueiras. Florida shot 50% from the field in the loss, but was just 6/19 from deep. The other three No. 1 seeds picked up double-digit wins in the Round of 32. Duke beat No. 9 TCU (81-58), Arizona beat No. 9 Utah State (78-66), and Michigan beat No. 9 Saint Louis (95-72).

Four No. 2 Seeds Left

March Madness in 2026 has seen each of the No. 2 seeds advance to the Sweet 16. Each team picked up a double-digit win as well in the Round of 32. We saw Purdue beat No. 7 Miami 79-69 while Connecticut took care of No. 7 UCLA by a score of 73-57. Houston dominated No. 10 Texas Tech 88-57 while Iowa State cruised by No. 7 Kentucky 82-63.

Tom Izzo in the Sweet 16 Again

(Tom Izzo is back in the Sweet 16.)

No active coach has reached the Sweet 16 more than Tom Izzo. The Michigan State Spartans coach is coaching in his 17th Sweet 16. Izzo first reached the Sweet 16 back in 1998 in what was the first of four straight appearances. He reached the Final Four the next three seasons and led Michigan State to a National Championship in 2000. The Spartans take on No. 2 seed Connecticut on Friday at 9:45 pm ET on CBS.
