Chicago did respond with a fairly prolific fourth quarter during blowout minutes, logging 53 points of its own that absolutely did not matter as Philadelphia held serve with 35 points in the frame.
Former nine-time All-Star forward Paul George made his triumphant (?) comeback from a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s drug policy, while former MVP center Joel Embiid rejoined the squad following an oblique injury layoff. The 76ers improved to a 40-33 record on the year, dropping Chicago to 28-43.
Playing just 28 minutes, Embiid scored 35 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 shooting from the foul line, while also passing for seven assists and grabbing six boards. Edgecombe, meanwhile, chipped in 22 points on just 7-of-9 shooting from the floor and 4-of-5 shooting from the charity stripe.
Payne scored 15 points off the bench on 5-of-8 shooting, all from long range. He also logged four rebounds and four assists in just 24 minutes. Where was this guy when he was with Chicago?

Billy Donovan, a fanatic lover of unnecessary small-ball lineups, opted to start Patrick Williams and Isaac Okoro on his extremely tiny frontline. It’s worth pointing out that Leonard Miller, Guerschon Yabusele and Lachlan Olbrich were all available. Maybe Donovan actually is trying to lean into the tank?
Josh Giddey finished with a mere double-double of 23 points, 12 dishes, and nine rebounds (it was a deeply low-impact impressive stat line, though), while Buzelis logged 18 points and eight boards.
