Lane Kiffin was able to get his closest look yet at his LSU football team as spring practice for the Tigers started on Tuesday.
One of the players looking to stand out in the early going is tight end Trey’Dez Green. Green was a top 50 recruit and the nation’s No. 2 player at his position when he signed with Brian Kelly and the Tigers out of the high school class of 2024. The native of Zachary, La. — just outside Baton Rouge — put together a second-team All-SEC season as a sophomore after he made 33 catches for 433 yards and seven touchdowns, most among LSU pass-catchers in 2025.
Even after Kelly was fired, Green decided to stick with his hometown program and play for Kiffin. Kiffin, who watched Green from the opposite sidelines as head coach at Ole Miss in 2024 and 2025, now has the chance to utilize him in an offense that will include the talented Sam Leavitt at quarterback.
“His skill set is ultra-elite. But so is his mindset. And that’s really, really unique to have, because they usually don’t coincide,” Kiffin said of Green, according to LSU beat writer Jerit Roser. “He doesn’t have another speed (and) he doesn’t have another thought besides ‘this is how you do things.'”
Heading into his junior year, Green, considered one of the top prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft, will look to make even more of a case for himself in 2026.
