CVS Pharmacy is opening a first-of-its-kind store in Chicago.
The new location, which will open at 2628 W. Pershing Rd. in the West End neighborhood, will be the first “pharmacy-only, apothecary-style” store in the city, setting the stage for nearly 20 other similar locations to open in “select communities” in 2026.
The grand opening for the store is slated to take place Monday, offering “an all-day community event” that will provide beverages, snacks, giveaways and more.
CVS first announced plans to open the new style of pharmacy just over one year ago. At the time, the pharmacy chain said it would open “smaller format” locations in select communities within the next year.
The new stores will be less than 5,000 square feet and offer “a full-service pharmacy with limited over-the-counter products available for purchase,” according to a statement from the company. The stores will aim to “make it easier for patients to access medications, immunizations, and other pharmacist-provided health care services,” CVS said.
The openings come just after CVS-owned Oak Street Health began laying off more than 200 employees and after the pharmacy chain shuttered hundreds of locations as part of an ongoing effort to “realign” the company’s retail footprint.
