Frondell vs. Schaefer? Moore’s Season, PWHL? AHL/CHL Talk, EuroTrip Tix, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

It looks like Anton Frondell is in New York with the Blackhawks. The question now becomes when will he join them on the ice for a game? Obviously making his NHL debut tonight at the Islanders would be the headline-grabbing opportunity for all involved parties. Frondell, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, starting his NHL career against Matthew Schaefer, the No. 1 pick and record-breaking, runaway (likely) Calder Trophy winner (not official but yeah).

Anton Frondell arrived in New York to join the Blackhawks today. Nothing definitive on whether he plays tomorrow. Sacha Boisvert is still waiting on his work visa.

— Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) March 24, 2026 Based on Scott’s reporting, we might not see Sacha Boisvert still tonight. The Blackhawks are scheduled to have their morning skate at 10:30 AM CT, so we’ll have a better idea of what’s happening then. Good read from Ben Pope on Oliver Moore‘s rookie season. Unfortunately, he won’t get to skate with the rest of the guys as more new players join the mix here in the closing days of the regular season. But this is a good reminder as we discuss the Blackhawks’ upcoming lineup decisions that Moore has shown that he’s an important part of the mix.

Oliver Moore's Blackhawks rookie season is likely finished after 51 games, during which he tallied 19 points. His production didn't jump off the page, but his speed and personality did, and his defensive acumen surprised me.New story: t.co/4ewH9XJdjK

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) March 23, 2026 There were some comments on Twitter last night that the PWHL is planning to expand to Chicago. I haven’t seen anything confirming that or been able to confirm it myself. Later this morning I’ll have a preview of the three postseason series in the OHL featuring Blackhawks prospects. The Blackhawks have one prospect, Nathan Behm, in the WHL playoffs with Kamloops. They’ll face Kelowna in the first round of their postseason. Here’s that schedule: Game 1 – Friday, March 27 at Kelowna, 7:05 pm PT Game 2 – Saturday, March 28 at Kelowna, 6:05 pm Game 3 – Tuesday, March 31 at Kamloops, 7:00 pm Game 4 – Wednesday, April 1 at Kamloops, 7:00 pm Game 5 – Friday, April 3 at Kelowna, 7:05 pm* Game 6 – Saturday, April 4 at Kamloops, 6:00 pm* Game 7 – Tuesday, April 7 at Kelowna, 7:05 pm* On “Hockey Night in Canada” this weekend, Elliotte Friedman reported the NHL, AHL and CHL are working towards an agreement that would allow 19-year-old first-round picks to play in the AHL next season with no limits. The interesting nuance here is that it appears to be limited to first-round picks. The new CBA, which begins in the new league year, initially allows for teams to have one 19-year-old prospect in the AHL. There was talk after the GM meetings earlier this month that teams with multiple first round picks might want to be able to stash more than one of them in the AHL instead of juniors or college. Based on Friedman’s reporting, the concession from the AHL and CHL would be that there might be an ability for teams to play more than one prospect in the AHL given those players are all first-round picks. Something to keep an eye on with the Blackhawks having multiple first round picks the next few years…

— Tony Androckitis* (@TonyAndrock) March 22, 2026 The Utah Mammoth signed forward Caleb Desnoyers to his entry-level contract. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The Rockford IceHogs signed Jamie Engelbert to a contract extension through the 2026-27 season. Feel like planning a European Vacation, Griswold? Well, tickets for the Blackhawks’ games in Germany go on sale on Friday morning! Here’s the link to buy tickets. While on the subject of the NHL going global, the league announced Monday morning that the Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken will play in Finland in November.
