Sectionals champion Caleb Kattau has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Pennsylvania State University beginning in the fall of 2026.
Kattau currently swims year-round with the Sandpipers of Nevada, where he primarily specializes in fly and IM.
Sandpipers of Nevada shared the news of his commitment to the team’s Instagram page, offering their congratulations.
“Congratulations to Caleb Kattau on his verbal commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Penn State University! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see what you accomplish in the future! WE ARE!!”
Kattau competed at the 2025 Winter Junior Championships in December, posting a new lifetime best in the 200 fly. He placed 7th overall in 1:46.02 after logging a personal best time of 1:45.55 during prelims.
At the 2025 Speedo Sectionals in Walnut the following weekend, Kattau delivered a string of top performances. He won the 200 fly (1:46.94) and placed 4th in the 400 IM in 3:51.71 after posting a best time of 3:51.08 during prelims. He also placed 19th in the 200 IM (1:50.31 – SB) and 22nd in the 200 breast (2:03.88) in addition to turning in a best time of 1:40.55 in the 200 free as the leadoff on the 800 free relay.
Over the summer, Kattau competed at the 2025 NCSA Summer Championships (LCM), where he earned a second swim in all six of his individual races. He placed 3rd in the 100 fly (54.51 – SB), 4th in the 200 fly (2:02.92 – SB), 9th in the 400 IM (4:29.33 – PB), 11th in the 200 IM (2:08.68), 16th in the 50 fly (25.74) and 24th in the 100 free (53.82).

100 fly – 48.42 200 fly – 1:45.55 200 IM – 1:49.39 400 IM – 3:51.08A Division I program, Penn State competes in the Big Ten Conference, with the men’s team finishing 9th at the 2026 Big Ten Championships a few weeks ago. To earn a second swim at this season’s conference championships, it took times of 46.48/1:48.51 in the 100/200 fly and 1:46.36/3:49.22 in the 200/400 IM, putting Kattau outside the cutoff in each of his top events.
On the team itself, Kattau would currently rank 1st in the 200 fly, 3rd in the 400 IM, 5th in the 100 fly and 6th in the 200 IM through this point in the season, putting him in a position to be a valuable contributor when he arrives in the fall.
The current list of recruits who will be joining Kattau in the pool next season includes Charlie Begin, Roman Dawson, Gabriel Campos and Pedro Medrado, who should all make for strong training partners over their four years together.
