Yes, the captain Ajinkya Rahane may remain the same but the vibes are different. A familiar face in Abhishek Nayar is the head coach, with Shane Watson and Tim Southee added to boost the coaching staff.

What are the strengths of KKR at IPL 2026?
KKR’s biggest strength hasn’t changed. Their spin choke remains elite. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy are still one of the most reliable middle-overs combinations in the league. Varun picked up 21 wickets in IPL 2024 and followed it up with 14 wickets at the T20 World Cup 2026, joint-most in the tournament. Although he was taken for runs for fun in the knockouts, he remains too good a player to be affected for such a long time.
Narine, meanwhile, is an all-time IPL legend. Despite him getting old, Narine continues to be miserly. Since 2025, he has operated at an economy of 6.6. There’s an option of Anukul Roy as well, who is a quality left-arm spinner.
KKR also have serious overseas flexibility. And without Andre Russell, KKR don’t have that one player who can flip games single-handedly at the death anymore.

If two things click, KKR suddenly look very different. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh.
Raghuvanshi has already shown signs of becoming a proper No. 3, and if he locks that role, it gives structure to the batting. He is in terrific form as well, having hit a century in the practice game. Rinku, on the other hand, remains one of the best finishers in India. If he returns to peak form, KKR’s lower order becomes dangerous again. A lot depends on him.
Eden Gardens is another big factor. They can make it their fortress again; with KKR can still control games through spin and flexible batting. A strong home run could define their season.
Also, it is an opportunity for Abhishek Nayar to stake his claim as a head coach. His association with the franchise has been a long one. Due to his success and close relationship with players, he got a role as assistant coach in the Indian team as well. However, he was removed by the BCCI. Now, he has got an opportunity as a head coach for the first time in a team he is well-versed with. So, Nayar would feel this as a great opportunity.

The early phase could decide everything. With an incomplete pace attack, KKR risk dropping points before their full squad is available. The injuries remain their biggest threat. They won’t have Pathirana for full season. Rana is out, and so is Akash Deep. These are three proper international quality pacers. But KKR couldn’t have done anything in this. Not their’s fault and this is what threats are about.
There’s also the danger of becoming too predictable. If too much depends on Narine and Varun controlling the middle overs, teams with strong spin-hitters can take that advantage away.
