ROCHECSTER, N.Y. – A fast-moving compact area of low pressure will be moving from the upper great lakes to just north of Lake Ontario over the next 24 hours. Often called a clipper storm, this feature will push a cold front across Western New York during Sunday. This will bring another big change in the temperature to finish up the weekend.
Tonight, most of the area will be mainly dry with just a small chance of passing sprinkles. The temperature will fall into the middle 30s for the evening, but the temperature will rise later tonight. On Sunday you should prepare for a much greater chance of wet weather. Occasional rain is expected with the risk of some thunder. The greatest chance of getting a thundershower will be south of Rochester. At this time, we do not expect any severe weather, so the News10NBC threat tracker will remain green. Before a cold front passes the area, the temperature will rise to near 50 degrees by mid-Sunday morning, but then the temperature will fall quickly through the 40s and 30s for the remainder of the weekend.
Snow showers will be possible Sunday with the chance of a small coating of snow by Monday morning. The temperature early Monday morning will be in the upper 20s. Monday looks to be unseasonably cold with morning flurries and breaks of sunshine for the afternoon. The high temperature will only reach the middle 30s.
