A Flat Loss, Still No Sacha, Injuries, OHL Goals, Panger Talks to Danny, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

After the Blackhawks got boat raced out of their own barn last night by the NHL-best Colorado Avalanche, head coach Jeff Blashill admitted his team just didn’t have it last night. No legs, no giddyup. The team played a physical game in Minnesota on Thursday night and there wasn’t enough gas left in the tank to compete against a big, strong, incredibly fast and efficient team.

Blashill continues to talk about learning moments since the trade deadline. He brought it up when talking about the team being flat out of the gates last night. When asked about the penalty kill not being a lock like it was before the deadline, Blashill said the organization expects there to be some bumps but the only way to be good is by getting experience, and you learn from mistakes. We’re probably going to see a few more moments as young guys take on different roles in the final weeks of the regular season.

So remember when you see them: it’s not a deal-breaker that someone does something wrong. The goal is that these games of struggle make the Blackhawks better in the long term.

Andrew Mangiapane and Louis Crevier didn’t play last night. Head coach Jeff Blashill said they got banged up in Minnesota and weren’t available, thus the recall of Dominic Toninato. Don’t expect either to play against Nashville on Sunday. Before the game, Blashill said he doesn’t think either issue is long-term. After the game, however, the Blackhawks’ head coach said Crevier should join the team to start their upcoming road trip but Mangiapane would likely have to join them during the trip. Sacha Boisvert‘s paperwork didn’t come thru on Friday. Unless the government suddenly starts working on weekends, it looks like he’ll make his debut during the upcoming road trip to New York/Philly/New Jersey. That is, of course, if the paperwork ever shows up… The KHL season came to a close on Friday. Blackhawks prospect Roman Kantserov officially finished the regular season as the KHL’s leading goal scorer with 36 goals (four more than anyone else in the league) in 63 games. He’s the first under-23 player to lead the league in goals since Kirill Kaprizov. His 64 points were tied for ninth in the league. In the OHL scoring race, Marek Vanacker scored his 47th of the year 13 minutes into the second period to give Brantford a 3-2 lead. Vanacker also had an assist on a power play goal earlier in the second period.

— Kamloops Blazers (@blazerhockey) March 21, 2026 Václav Nestrašil and UMass played their Hockey East semifinal game against Merrimack on Friday afternoon and, unfortunately, lost. Which apparently means their dreams of an NCAA tournament berth are gone. Really good true freshman season for Nestrašil comes to a close. The biggest game for Blackhawks fans to keep an eye on today is in Sweden, where Djurgården will play Game 3 of a best-of-3 series. If they lose, their season is over. Which could make Anton Frondell available… CHSN aired a sit-down conversation between Danny Wirtz and Darren Pang before the game last night. Here it is if you missed it. The Dallas Stars signed forward Dylan Hryckowian, who just completed his junior season at Northeastern, to a two-year, entry-level contract that will begin in 2026-27. Pretty cool story. His older brother, Justin, plays for the Stars. He’ll finish this season with the Texas Stars in the AHL. Finally, a good read here from Steven Ellis at Daily Faceoff on the top ten draft-eligible players in college hockey. You’ve likely heard of Gavin McKenna and Keaton Verhoeff by now. But there are other guys on here that could be of interest to the Blackhawks.
