Another New Soldier Field Proposal For the Chicago Bears to Consider ...Middle East

A new version of a reimagined Soldier Field has hit the timeline.

At this stage of the game, the Chicago Bears are choosing between a spot in suburban Arlington Heights and one in Northwest Indiana located near Hammond for their next stadium. But that isn’t stopping the folks at Edward Peck Design from sharing video of a reimagined Soldier Field (and surrounding area) for the sake of discussion.

One last-ditch pitch for Soldier Field and the Bears

While new Soldier Field renderings emerge, the team remains committed to either Arlington Heights or a move to Indiana. But I suppose there is no harm in looking at what Soldier Field could look like if it remained the home of the Bears. The Tribune and FOX-32 have news stories on the latest long-shot pitch to keep Chicago’s football team from trekking to the suburbs or fleeing the state altogether.

WHAT WILL HAPEN TO SOLDIER FIELD AFTER THE BEARS LEAVE?

On the surface, it is hard to hate this new proposal for Soldier Field. It features a domed stadium with a transparent ETFE roof that would allow for natural light while also keeping the elements outdoors. The next home of Bears football being fixed-roof stadium has long been the only thing that feels like a certainty when it comes to this saga. Additionally, the concept calls for a larger capacity (72,000 seats) than other Bears stadium projects. That’s neat! It also includes an entertainment district designed to make the campus a year-round destination. Seriously … what’s not to like?

The odd thing about this latest Soldier Field stadium proposal is that it is unclear who brought it to the table. Is this a Bears-funded project? Or is it soemthing being pitched by the city or state? Perhaps a private citizen is behind this — who knows? I do love a good mystery, though.

In the end, this new proposal will probably register as a non-factor. It seems as if the Bears will choose between an Arlington Park project where the team can build out a mixed-use district (think hotels, restaurants, a casino, rental property, etc.) that would allow the franchise a path toward paying off the costs of building or a stadium in Indiana that is bankrolled by taxpayers in the Hoosier state. At this point, I just want to see the Bears win meaningful football games no matter where they play.
