BN NEWS! We’ve Hired Two MORE Cubs Writers: Tony Andracki and Jacob Zanolla! ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Hello, everyone. I have a very exciting META update for you all today: We’re expanding our Cubs coverage this summer by adding TWO new Cubs writers (in addition to Cole Bair, who just started a few weeks ago!). Welcome, Tony Andracki and Jacob Zanolla!

I am extremely proud of and grateful to all of you (and Betsperts) for making this possible. I know ads can be annoying (subscribe to BN Pro if you don’t want to see ads), but in an era, industry, and city in which very talented, high-profile writers are getting let go almost monthly, we are lucky enough to keep hiring and expanding our team to bring you even more coverage than ever before.

I’d also like to say thank you to some of our local sponsors for supporting us and making this possible: Ankin Law, Feldco, Danleys Garages, Ivy Hall, Homage, and Obvious Shirts.

You’ve already met Cole, who’s been handling our weekend bullets (and will be covering some weekend games) for us this summer, but in case you missed his intro: Cole’s full-time job is in radio, overseeing operations of KCNZ-AM, aka, ‘1650 The Fan’ in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The station is an affiliate of the Cubs Radio Network (which is how Cole and I got to know each other). He’s also spent seven years as a sports correspondent for The Cedar Rapids Gazette, mainly covering University of Northern Iowa football and men’s and women’s basketball.

Cole started up at Bleacher Nation a few weeks ago. And he’s the only addition that is sort of replacing some existing content for us (Brett and I needed some help on the weekends). Our two new guys, by contrast, will be supplying entirely supplementary content and coverage.

And they’re from two ends of the professional spectrum, which I just love (it’s like we signed a big-time free agent and got a top-100 prospect!).

Welcome, Tony Andracki!

Tony Andracki is a household name in Chicago and by far the highest-profile addition Bleacher Nation has ever made. I first met Tony when our time at NBC Sports Chicago overlapped, but you probably know him more recently from his work on Marquee Sports Network. Before Marquee downsized, Tony was their Digital Content Manager and a longtime Cubs beat writer. One of the best out there, in my opinion.

For Bleacher Nation, Tony is going to contribute a few articles every week, but from a very different perspective than our current content, including some more first-hand player interviews (straight out of the locker room) and deep dives, rankings, and profiles.

I am so excited to add someone with Tony’s experience to our stable of writers, and I really hope you enjoy the new flavor of Cubs coverage he’s going to add to the site.

Welcome, Jacob Zanolla!

On the opposite end of the professional experience spectrum, you’ll find Jacob Zanolla, who is just getting started in his Cubs and baseball media career (he’s been contributing for our friends over at the wonderful Cubs Insider), but has entered the Cubs media space with a bang.

What Jacob may lack in experience, he more than makes up for in enthusiasm and professionalism. I have been following him closely over the last couple of years, and I have been wildly impressed by his talent, ability, connections, and writing style.

Jacob will also be contributing a few articles a week, from analysis to news to the occasional game coverage. If you’re active in the Cubs online community, chances are you’ve already seen his work. Jacob, 20, is currently studying Sports Communication and Marketing at Florida Southern College.

I’m not trying to pat ourselves on the back (and I’m including you in that by the way), but I am genuinely proud that we can expand at a time when the entire industry seems to be going in the opposite direction. Because of AI, declining ad rates, disruption to social media chains, and the ever-enigmatic Google algorithm, the sports media landscape is increasingly difficult to sustain every single day. But by allowing ads on our site, subscribing to BN Pro, and interacting with our sponsors, you are supporting a locally-run, human-driven content machine that I hope brings you valuable information and joy every single day.

Truly, thank you.

It’s going to be an awesome year of Cubs baseball, and now, our coverage is amped up to match. And to be quite clear, this does not mean less content from Brett or me (besides Brett on the weekend). In fact, I think I’m about to write more this summer than I ever have before. The intention here is to be supplemental, while offering new perspectives + a different type of content than we’ve ever had before.

And that’s not all: Starting next week, we will be introducing some new features to the Cubs category page, including player stats, schedule information, live updating roster pages, and more! Stay tuned on that front; more info next week!
