Coby Bryant Has Some Interesting Thoughts and Ideas ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

When discussing the Chicago Bears’ offseason moves in our most recent episode of the Bleacher Nation Bears Podcast, Patrick, Matt, and I agreed that the Coby Bryant signing was the team’s best move. And in the days that have since passed, there is nothing that has happened that would change my stance on that front. Plus, hearing from Bryant as he has hit the interview circuit has made me even more of a fan.

During an interview with Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show, the new Bears safety dished on a variety of topics. I plucked some of my favorite quotes to share below and added some commentary for context. At the end of this post, you can watch the full interview. But in the meantime, you can enjoy some highlights!

Why choose the Bears? “The sense of being wanted, honestly. They called me at 7 a.m. I’m in Arizona, so they called me pretty early. I had just woken up, and that was what struck me right there. Just being wanted and them pursuing to get me over there. It wasn’t easy. Obviously, being in Seattle for four years. But ultimately, I’m blessed, and that’s where it led me to—Chicago. … Them telling me how much they wanted me to be there, what I could bring to the team, just being a leader as well. I already saw what they were building with the team last year.” Did the Caleb Williams factor into Bryant’s decision to play for the Bears? “Absolutely. … Caleb Williams, just the special talent he is, the leader he is. He actually reached out to me. He was the first person to reach out to me when I did sign. We were texting back and forth just catching up, getting to know each other, and stuff like that. His reaching out to me meant a lot. … Elite talent. He’s just scratching the surface. I’m excited to watch him play.”

I like that the Bears were aggressive in their pursuit of Coby Bryant. And for what it’s worth, Bryant clearly appreciated Chicago’s forward approach. Who doesn’t love that feeling of being wanted? Seriously! It puts a little pep in your step when someone — or in this case, a team — makes you a priority. I’m also digging the Caleb Williams lovefest. That Chicago’s QB1 reached out early upon Bryant’s signing is a good look.

Coby Bryant is down to face his old teammates in Week 1: “Every game is a meaningful game. But I wouldn’t mind starting the season off out there. The weather will be nice, the whole world will be watching. I’m ready.”

© Kevin Ng-Imagn Images On the transition from cornerback to safety: “Honestly, I feel like I was more of a safety coming out, but I could play corner. And when they moved me to safety in Seattle a couple of years ago, I was pretty pissed. I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t want to play safety. I always wanted to play corner. But they knew what it could do to my career, and I’m beyond thankful that they were able to do that for me. It just unlocks me being the best player and the best leader I can be on the team I’m on and go out there and make the plays I’m capable of making.”

WHY COBY BRYANT WAS A PRIORITY ADDITION FOR THE BEARS DEFENSE

Coby Bryant is ready to give deep-dish pizza a second chance after his first Chicago visit didn’t go so well: “All I hear is the deep-dish pizza. Not really a big fan of that. They might get on me about that, so I have to try the better deep-dish pizzas. To be fair, it was after we played the Bears, so I don’t remember the name. It was kind of cold a little bit, too, so I can’t really go off that. So I’m going to have to re-try that.”

Chicago is such a great food city. Bryant will learn how good a food city it is when he settles into his new situation, and his teammates start dishing on where to grab some grub. He also mentioned during the interview that he has only been to Chicago once as a player. It sounds like he is looking forward to checking out his new digs.

Coby Bryant Joins Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams

That was a fun interview between Kay Adams and Coby Bryant. As much as I want to hear more from Chicago’s new safety, it pales in comparison to how much I look forward to seeing him play.
