ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The homecoming celebration continues for Pittsford’s Chris Lillis after winning his second gold medal at the Milan and Cortina Winter Olympics.
The aerial freestyle skier hosted a meet-and-greet on Wednesday evening at Woodcliff Hotel in Fairport. He signed autographs and shared stories from his time at the Olympics in Italy. News10NBC spoke with him about his journey.
“I’m a product of the Bristol Freestyle Team of skiing here and grew up in Rochester. So, anytime I get to come back, I start to feel like a kid again. Being around Johnny Kroetz, who was my first coach, being with my family with my parents. It still feels like I’m having fun with my friends out there, even when we’re on the biggest stage.”
Earlier this week, Lillis visited RCSD School No. 19 on Seward Street, where his mother has been a longtime teacher, hoping to inspire students to pursue what they’re passionate about. He also marched in the Rochester St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, bringing his gold medal with him, and spoke with News10NBC about his homecoming.
Lillis helped lead Team USA to a second straight Olympic gold in the mixed team aerials. He soared to the top of the podium alongside Connor Curran and Kaila Kuhn.
