Our most recent poll asked SwimSwam readers which race they’re most excited for this week in Atlanta:

Question: Which event are you looking forward to most at Women’s NCAAs?

RESULTS

100 free – 28.5% 200 free – 21.9% 100 fly – 14.0% 400 IM – 9.5% 50 free – 6.8% 500 free – 5.4% 200 back – 2.9% 100 breast – 2.9% 100 back – 2.5% 200 fly – 2.2% 200 breast – 1.6% 1650 free – 1.3% 200 IM – 0.5%

There’s always plenty of hype leading into the NCAA Championship meets, but this year on the women’s side, there’s clearly an appetite to see what goes down in the freestyle events.

In our latest poll, more than half of SwimSwam readers indicated they’re most looking forward to either the 100 or 200 free at NCAAs, while the 50, 100, 200 and 500 free accounted for four of the top six spots overall.

Leading the way with 28.5% of votes was the 100 free, which features a loaded entry list headlined by Virginia sophomore Anna Moesch and Stanford senior Torri Huske, who threw down respective times of 45.71 and 45.79 at last month’s ACC Championships to become the third and fourth-fastest performers in history.

Two other swimmers who rank in the top 10 all-time will be in the field, Tennessee junior Camille Spink (46.01) and Virginia freshman Sara Curtis (46.03), while two other first-years, Indiana’s Liberty Clark (46.22) and Texas’ Eva Okaro (46.41), will also be in the mix after moving in the top 20 all-time last month.

2025-26 NCAA Rankings, Women’s 100 Freestyle (SCY)

Anna Moesch (Virginia), 45.71 – 2026 ACC Championships Torri Huske (Stanford), 45.79 – 2026 ACC Championships Claire Curzan* (Virginia), 46.00 – 2026 ACC Championships Camille Spink (Tennessee), 46.01 – 2026 SEC Championships Sara Curtis (Virginia), 46.03 – 2026 ACC Championships Liberty Clark (Indiana), 46.22 – 2026 Big Ten Championships Eva Okaro (Texas), 46.41 – 2026 SEC Championships Julia Dennis (Louisville), 46.76 – Eddie Reese Texas Showdown Caroline Larsen (Louisville), 46.82 – 2026 ACC Championships Mary-Ambre Moluh (Cal), 46.87 – 2026 ACC Championships

*Won’t race event individually at NCAAs

The 200 free, which ranked #2 in the poll with 21.9% of votes, also projects to be a barn-burner with Moesch set to go to battle with USC’s Minna Abraham and Clark.

Moesch became just the fourth woman ever to break the 1:40 barrier when she clocked 1:39.72 at ACCs, while Abraham, the 2025 NCAA runner-up, set a new best time of 1:40.47 at the Texas Hall of Fame Invite in November, and Clark recently won the Big Ten title in 1:40.84.

In addition to the top three being 1:40 or faster, the other five women seeded in the top eight are sub-1:42, setting up for what should be a blazing-fast prelims session and an exciting final.

The only other event to crack 10% of votes was the 100 fly, which will pit former Stanford teammates Huske and Claire Curzan against one another.

Although she’s the reigning Olympic champion and a former LC world champion in the event, Huske has never won the NCAA title in the 100 fly, owning a pair of runner-up finishes and one 3rd-place showing throughout her college career.

In her last collegiate meet, Huske comes in as the favorite to finally take the top step of the podium, though she’ll have to fend off Curzan, who didn’t race the 100 fly at NCAAs last season due to its proximity to the 100 back, but has returned to the event due to the new NCAA schedule.

The NCAA final will be a rematch of the ACC Championships, where Huske edged out Curzan as both swimmers set new best times. Huske’s time of 48.26 ranks her #2 all-time behind Gretchen Walsh (46.97), while Curzan’s 48.47 clocking sits 4th in the historical ranks behind Walsh, Huske and Kate Douglass (48.46).

The rest of the field is well off the pace of Huske and Curzan, with Alex Shackell, Gigi Johnson and Miranda Grana the next-fastest swimmers, all seeded with 49.9s. Shackell owns a best time of 49.49, set back in December 2023.

Also picking up a good number of votes was the 400 IM, which projects to be a four-way battle for the title between defending champion Caroline Bricker, top seed Bella Sims, and the last two ACC champions in the event, Katie Grimes and Lucy Bell. They’re the only four swimmers seeded under 4:00, with more than two seconds separating 4th-ranked Grimes (3:59.80) from 5th-ranked Ella Jansen (4:01.97).
