CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester and F.F. Thompson Hospital have teamed up to launch a new hospitality cart for young patients and their families.
The “Thompson Trolley” offers toys, books, and snacks to children receiving treatment at the hospital.
“I remember our first night at the hospital was scary, isolated, lonely,” said the father of Madison Kait Barhelmes, who inspired the “Mighty for Madison” group. “One of the things that really helped that night—somebody came by with a toy—the thing I remember most—it made Maddie happy and made her a little more comfortable.”
This marks Ronald McDonald House’s first program outside Monroe County, with funding from the Paychex Charitable Foundation.
The organization also operates four other hospitality carts at hospital and outpatient locations in Monroe County.
