Fairport native moving on to the ‘knockout round’ of The Voice ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Fairport native Lucas West is moving on to the “knockout round” of NBC’s singing competition The Voice.

In the “battle round”, West went up against contestant AJ Robinson, performing the song “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes. At the end of the performance, coach John Legend chose to keep West on his team.

In the “knockout round”, artists will still be paired against another teammate, but this time, they will get to pick the song. Just like the “battle round”, the coach will choose the winner, but other coaches won’t have the ability to “steal” anymore.

News10NBC spoke with West after he turned chairs in the “blind auditions” of The Voice. He spoke about why he chose Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” for his audition and his excitement over working with John Legend, who he chose as his coach over Adam Levine.

We also spoke with West in January of 2025, as he prepared to sing the National Anthem for the Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens playoff game at Highmark Stadium. West is a senior at SUNY Fredonia, pursuing a degree in music with a focus on jazz.
