Aaron welcomes Graeme Robertson, who heads up UNC’s Authoritarian Politics Lab, which studies how authoritarian governments work and how they’re able to maintain support. That’s timely work, but Robertson’s efforts are timely for a second reason too: he’s also the director of UNC’s Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies, which is one of the six area studies centers that are about to be shut down (or collapsed into one much smaller center) for budgetary reasons.
