The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating a report of gunfire near a key stretch of downtown streets Monday evening.
An alert from the town government said police officers responded at 4:44 p.m. to North Roberson Street between West Franklin Street and West Rosemary Street following the report. An initial investigation determined one person shot at another person before leaving the area, according to Chapel Hill Police. No one has reported an injury from the incident as of 6 p.m.
Investigators believe the gunfire was an isolated incident and the public’s greater safety is not threatened. Monday’s alert said the Chapel Hill Police Department “is working to identify and locate a suspect.”
