A number of North Carolina Swimming LSC Records fell last month at the North Carolina Swimming Senior Championships. That includes a pair of new all-time state bests in the 15-16 age group from SwimMAC Carolina’s David Sammons.

Sammons, a 16-year-old high school sophomore, won both the 200 fly and 400 IM at the meet in new lifetime best results. In both cases, he broke the old LSC Record.

In the 200 fly, his new record-setting time is 1:43.03, and in the 400 IM it’s a 3:44.87. Those swims were improvements of 1.6 and 4.3 seconds, respectively, on his previous lifetime bests from Winter Juniors East in December.

Those swims preceded his appearance at the Pro Swim Series in Westmont last weekend where he posted long course bests in the 100 fly (55.02), the 200 fly (1:59.47), and the 200 IM (2:04.27) in long course.

At the Senior Champs, he also added wins in the 200 free (1:35.37), 200 back (1:44.16), both also in new personal bests. Sammons is likely to be at least a top 15 recruit in the high school class of 2028 when those rankings come out later this semester.

His 200 fly record wasn’t the only monster performance in that event – Mattaus Rammel from the New Wave Swim Club was 2nd in 1:43.50, which was a 3.6 second improvement on his previous best. The senior is committed to Ohio State for the fall.

There were lots of big performances from the SwimMAC men at the meet. Eli Sweet won the 200 breast in 1:59.17, which was a four-and-a-half second improvement over his previous best time from Winter Juniors. He’s another uncommitted sophomore in this huge class for North Carolina’s largest club.

Florida commit Santi Alzate won the boy’s 200 free (1:37.15) and 500 free (4:21.05) as well.

SwimMAC Carolina – 794.5 New Wave Swim Team – 617 Marlins of Raleigh – 503 North Carolina Aquatic Club – 396 Sailfish Aquatics – 273.5

On the girls’ side of the meet, Reina Liu from the host TAC Titans swam a light schedule ahead of the Pro Swim Series, but still managed to pick up a win and two new lifetime best.

The win came in the 400 IM, where she swam 4:09.88, a 3.42 second improvement; she was also 8th in the 200 breast in 2:16.54.

Liu represented Canada at the 2024 Junior Pan Pac Championships.

Her teammate and University of Georgia commit Nikki Nixon won three individual events at the meet. She swam 53.89 in the 100 back, which matched her North Carolina High School State Championship winning swim from two weeks earlier.

She also swam best times in the 100 fly (51.54) and 200 fly (1:54.04). Those times would both be the fastest on Georgia’s roster this season.

Girls’ Top 5 Team Scores

SwimMAC Carolina – 1,123 Marlins of Raleigh – 1,112 North Carolina Aquatic Club – 875 New Wave Swim Team – 832 TAC Titans – 545

Other Meet Results/Headlines

Louise Vidarsson from Mecklenburg Swim Association won the 200 back in 1:56.55, a 1.97 second improvement on her previous personal best. She swam personal bests in all five individual events she entered. She is just a high school freshman; her 1:58 from Winter Juniors ranks her 8th among 14-year-olds this season, and newly aged up, she now ranks 14th among 15-16s already this season. SwimMAC’s Caroline Mallard won the 200 free (1:47.05) in a two second improvement over her previous best time – which came the last time she swam this event at this meet last year. She then won the 200 fly, dropping about 1.5 seconds.

Combined Team Scores

SwimMAC Carolina – 1,917.5 Marlins of Raleigh – 1,112 North Carolina Aquatic Club – 875 New Wave Swim Team – 832 TAC Titans – 545
