Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction: Can Igor Tudor Turn it Around at Anfield? ...Middle East

News by : (The Analyst) -

We look ahead to Sunday’s Premier League clash at Anfield with our Liverpool vs Tottenham prediction and preview. Can Igor Tudor end his dismal start at Spurs?

Liverpool vs Tottenham: The Key Stats

Liverpool are the heavy favourites according to the Opta supercomputer, with a 65.1% win probability against Tottenham Tottenham are on the longest losing run in their history, having suffered six straight defeats. Liverpool have lost just one of their last 31 home league games against Spurs.

It could really happen.

Opta’s supercomputer is still backing Tottenham Hotspur to avoid the drop (giving them an 81.9% chance of staying up), but with nine games to go, on the back of a historically bad losing run, Spurs are right in the mire of a Premier League relegation fight.

They are the only top-flight team yet to win a game in the competition in 2026. The UEFA Champions League was meant to be a welcome distraction, but their woes followed them into Europe on Tuesday as they succumbed to a 5-2 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

They were 4-0 down inside 22 minutes, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky subbed off early after some catastrophic mistakes.

The situation really is dire. Spurs have lost their last six matches in all competitions, which is the worst run in the club’s history. Igor Tudor has lost all four of his games in charge since taking over from Thomas Frank, the worst start ever of any Tottenham boss.

The Croatian coach was meant to steady the ship and guide Spurs through to the end of the season, but if matters continue to go south, surely there is only one way this is ending.

Igor Tudor’s Disastrous Start

Champions League

Maybe Nobody Can Fix Tottenham, But Igor Tudor Definitely Can’t

By the time they take to the field at Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday, Spurs could be in the bottom three, albeit that would mean West Ham have picked up an unlikely win against Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest have also beaten Fulham.

There is little margin for error, with Spurs just a point above the drop zone. They also face Forest in a potential six-pointer on 22 March.

Spurs are winless in 11 league matches. They have lost each of their last five Premier League games; only in February 1994 (seven) and November 2004 (six) have they ever suffered 6+ successive defeats in their league history.

But this slump has been a long time coming. Since the start of last season, Spurs have won only 18 league games. Of the ever-present top-flight teams in that time, only Wolves (15) have collected fewer wins, while only Wolves (40) have lost more Premier League matches than Spurs (36).

Spurs have shipped 111 goals, trailing just West Ham (116) and Wolves (121), while their 108.0 xG against in that time is the worst in the division.

And while Liverpool are struggling to reach the levels of previous seasons, they are still gunning for a place in the top four and will have the Anfield crowd on their side, albeit it may do Spurs good to get away from their own home ground, given the apathy among their fanbase.

In fact, Spurs have earned 19 of their 29 points in the Premier League this season away from home, a ratio of 66%. In the competition’s history, only Ipswich Town in 2024-25 (68% – 15/22) and Crystal Palace in 1997-98 (67% – 22/33) have ever earned a larger share of their points on the road.

So, perhaps there should be some hope for Spurs fans.

After their 2-1 reverse to bottom-placed Wolves last week, Liverpool have lost nine Premier League games this season, more than they did in 2023-24 (four) and 2024-25 (four) combined (eight). The Reds last suffered 10+ defeats in a league season in 2015-16 (10), and last did so under a single manager in 2014-15 under Brendan Rodgers (12).

Like Spurs, Liverpool also come into this game on the back of a defeat in the Champions League, losing 1-0 to Galatasaray.

Prior to that, they did beat Wolves 3-1 in the FA Cup, but there is no doubt that the defeat at Molineux three days earlier represented a blow to Arne Slot, whose team continue to give away goals late on.

Liverpool have lost five Premier League games thanks to 90th-minute winners this season, the most ever by a team in a single campaign.

It has been an underwhelming season for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian did score in both recent games against Wolves, though, while he has netted 16 times in his career against Spurs across all competitions (14 for Liverpool, one for Fiorentina, one for Basel), his joint-most against a single opponent (also 16 vs Manchester United).

Twelve of those have come in the Premier League, with only Alan Shearer (14) netting more against Spurs in the competition.

System or Salah? What is the Cause of Liverpool Star’s Lacklustre Season?

At the opposite end of the pitch, former Everton striker Richarlison will hope to continue his good record against the Reds. The Brazilian has been involved in more Premier League goals against Liverpool than any other opponent (eight – five goals, three assists), including five in five games with Spurs (three goals, two assists).

His next goal or assist will be his 100th in the Premier League (72 goals, 27 assists currently), with only two Brazilians reaching that milestone previously (Roberto Firmino 132, Gabriel Jesus 118).

Richarlison, though, may not even be guaranteed to start. Former Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke has scored in Spurs’ last two games, but Tudor might be tempted to find a way to get Richarlison into the team. He is not only Spurs’ leading scorer this term (nine goals), but his 13 goal involvements are at least four more than of any of his teammates.

Liverpool continue to be without Alexander Isak ever since he suffered a broken leg in the reverse fixture in December, while Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni are other long-term absentees. Alisson could be available again after missing the midweek loss to Galatasaray, while Federico Chiesa is expected to have recovered from illness.

Spurs will be without the suspended Micky van de Ven after his red card against Crystal Palace last time out, while Cristian Romero and João Palhinha are likely to be among a number of other injury absentees after the pair clashed heads late on in the loss in Madrid.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Head-to-Head

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 31 home league games against Spurs (W21 D9), and are unbeaten in 14 (W10 D4) since a 2-0 loss in May 2011.

Spurs have won just one of their last 16 Premier League games against Liverpool (D3 L12), losing the last four in a row since a 2-1 home win in September 2023.

Slot’s side won 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the reverse fixture in December, with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitiké scoring. Richarlison pulled one back late on for the hosts, who ended the game with nine men after Xavi Simons and Romero were sent off.

Liverpool vs Tottenham is the highest-scoring fixture in Premier League history, with 209 goals.

The Reds have scored 127 of these, with only Liverpool themselves netting more against a specific opponent in the competition (131 vs Newcastle United).

Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction

Spurs came out on top in just 16.1% of the model’s 10,000 data-led sims. There is a 18.8% chance of a draw.
