ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Yellow Alert Friday for local damaging gusts tonight and a little slushy snow this afternoon. After a quiet morning, clouds will increase and some rain and wet snow will develop during the midday and afternoon hours. Slushy coating to an inch possible, mainly on grassy surfaces. Roads should see minimal impacts. As the afternoon precip tapers off stronger winds will begin to develop. We have a High Wind Warning for Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming County. Wind Advisories are up for Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Ontario and Yates County. Gusts will reach 40-50mph later this afternoon into the early evening and then 50-55mph overnight. At this time we are not anticipating widespread issues, but some local tree damage and power outages are possible. Winds will slowly diminish heading into Saturday.
Saturday will begin gusty with some snow showers likely. Any accumulations should be southwest of Rochester. Snow showers will clear and the clouds will try and break for some sunshine, but the cold will last. Be prepared for feel like wind chills in the teens and 20s with gusts 30-40mph during the St. Patrick’s Parade in Rochester Saturday afternoon.
Looking ahead to Sunday a warm front in the morning may bring a little snow to the region. That will clear heading into the afternoon with temperatures rising into Sunday night through the 40s into the 50s. Monday will start very mild around 60 degrees. Rain will arrive with a strong cold front in the afternoon. Temps will plunge into the 20s on Tuesday with local lake effect snow.
