After very nearly bungling their way right out of the World Baseball Classic, Team USA will reach the quarterfinals after all, thanks to Team Italy’s decisive win over Team Mexico last night.
Team USA, featuring Pete Crow-Armstrong, Alex Bregman, Matthew Boyd, and some other players of relative note, will face Team Canada in a neighbor versus neighbor showdown on Friday, March 13 at 7pm CT in Houston on FOX.
If USA wins that one, they’ll move on to face either Team Dominican Republic or Team Korea in the semifinal:
As you can see, Italy’s reward for finishing undefeated in Pool A is a match-up with Puerto Rico, which is a loaded team even after the insurance issues. The winner of that one gets Team Japan or Team Venezuela, the latter of which lost last night to the DR for the right to avoid Japan in the quarterfinals.
