ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Students and parents gathered at Monroe Community College’s Brighton campus on Wednesday for the “College 101” fair. The event aimed to help those considering college navigate the process.
Colleges from the Rochester area provided tips on financial aid, athletic recruitment, and living independently for the first time. Organizers emphasized the importance of showing students they can take the next big step.
“It can just be feeling like you’re really bogged down. You don’t know exactly where to go, what to do,” said Julie Slate, director of admissions at MCC. “We want to make sure that people understand that they’re not in this alone,” Slate said.
MCC has hosted College 101 events for more than a decade, but this was the first time every Rochester area college was represented. It happened at the Thomas Flynn Campus Center.
