Syrians in Lebanon face difficult conditions amid the ongoing military confrontation between the Israeli army and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which has continued since March 2.

The Syrian General Authority for Land and Sea Borders and Customs announced the reopening of the al-Arida border crossing with Lebanon starting on the morning of March 8, allowing pedestrian crossings only and in one direction from Lebanon into Syria, according to an Enab Baladi correspondent in Tartous.
The authority explained that the measure came in response to demands from Syrians residing in Lebanon who wish to return to Syria, and as part of efforts to ease their suffering and facilitate return procedures.
However, the crossing is conditional on not transporting household furniture, according to the authority, because the bridge leading to the crossing still requires maintenance and rehabilitation before it can fully reopen to vehicle traffic.
The authority added that its staff will remain fully prepared to provide all necessary facilities for returnees and organize entry procedures in a way that ensures fast processing and the safety of citizens.
It also noted that work is ongoing in parallel to rehabilitate the Jisr Qamar and al-Dabbousieh border crossings in preparation for reopening them as soon as possible, which would help reduce pressure on currently operating crossings and improve the flow of border movement.
