ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Knighthawks announced they have relieved Mike Hasen of his duties as head coach. Hasen, who has been with the team since 1999, brought Rochester three consecutive National Lacrosse League titles from 2012 to 2014.
Hasen played with the Knighthawks from 1999 to 2007 and began coaching the team in 2011, winning coach of the year after his rookie season. Hasen then took Rochester to the top, winning, a then NLL record, three-consecutive championships.
In 2019, the Knighthawks moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and became the Halifax Thunderbirds. Hasen remained in Rochester as the city was rewarded an expansion team and kept its name. In the expansion era, Hasen has produced a record of 39-56, including a 5-6 record this season.
Knighthawks acquire Fairport native Blaze Riorden
This year, Rochester started the year 4-1, but are 1-5 over the last six games. The most recent loss was a 14-7 defeat by the 3-9 Calgary Roughnecks. Assistant coach Pat O’Toole was also terminated. The Knighthawks are under new ownership with the Seneca Nation in its first year at the helm. No replacement has been named.
In other news, the Knighthawks acquired Fairport native Blaze Riorden, a prominent lacrosse star. Riorden was traded from the Philadelphia Wings for a second-round pick. He has seven goals and 11 assists this year.
