UNC’s Caleb Wilson Named First Team All-ACC, Henri Veesaar Named to Second Team ...Middle East

News by : (chapelboro) -

UNC’s Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar each earned All-ACC honors Monday afternoon. Wilson was named first team All-ACC, while Veesaar received a spot on the second team.

Despite playing in just 24 games due to injuries, Wilson still finished as the UNC leader in steals (36), finished second in blocks (33, two behind Veesaar’s 35) and fourth in assists (64). His 19.8 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per game were also team bests and ranked in the ACC’s top five. He is the 54th Tar Heel to make first team All-ACC and joins Tyler Hansbrough (2006) and Antawn Jamison (1996) as the only UNC freshmen to do so.

Wilson received the second-most votes of any player on the first team, trailing only Duke’s Cameron Boozer, who was named ACC Player of the Year. Wilson and Boozer also tied for the most votes of any member of the All-ACC Rookie Team.

Veesaar averaged 16.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in his first season in Chapel Hill. He is currently UNC’s leading three-point shooter, knocking down 41.5 percent of his attempts. His overall field goal percentage of 61.4 ranks second in the ACC. The former Arizona Wildcat joins Bob McAdoo (1972), Cam Johnson (2019) and Harrison Ingram (2024) as the only Tar Heels to earn an All-ACC nod as a transfer.

Wilson and Boozer are joined on the first team by Stanford’s Ebuka Okorie, Miami’s Malik Reneau and Virginia’s Thijs De Ridder. On the second team, Veesaar is joined by SMU’s Boopie Miller, Wake Forest’s Juke Harris, Miami’s Tre Donaldson and Louisville’s Ryan Conwell. UNC’s Seth Trimble earned an honorable mention nod.

Elsewhere, Duke’s Jon Scheyer was named ACC Coach of the Year, Maliq Brown was named Defensive Player of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year, Boozer Rookie of the Year and Wake Forest’s Harris Most Improved Player. For a full breakdown of the award winners, click here.

The Tar Heels will return to action Thursday night as the No. 4 seed in the ACC Tournament in Charlotte. UNC’s quarterfinal game is scheduled to tip off at 9:30 p.m.
