ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Fairport native Blaze Riorden, a prominent figure in lacrosse, has been traded from the Philadelphia Wings to the Rochester Knighthawks. The trade involves a second-round pick going back to Philly.
Riorden has scored seven goals and made 11 assists this year as a forward. He expressed his excitement about playing at the Blue Cross Arena for the first time in 2018, saying, “Honestly, I could say that it’s a vision that I’ve had since I’ve ever started attending Knighthawks games. My dad said that he couldn’t even get me up to go get popcorn in between intermissions because I just wanted to watch all the little things happen.”
“Blaze brings even more size and leadership to our forward group,” said Knighthawks general manager Dan Carey in a press release. “He knows how to get to the dirty areas of the floor and is a vocal leader. He will be a great role model for our younger players on and off the floor, and it’s always nice to bring a player home.”
In his eight-year National Lacrosse League career, Riorden has accumulated 143 goals and 190 assists in 121 games. Riorden may be known better for his time as a goalie in the Premier Lacrosse league, the NLL’s outdoor counterpart, where he has five “Oren Lyons Goalie of the Year” awards and was the 2021 league MVP.
During his time at Fairport, Riorden won two Section Five championships.
The Knighthawks currently hold a 5-6 record and are set to play against Las Vegas on Saturday.
