One of the most popular hotels in the north suburbs known for its English Tudor-style rooms, afternoon tea service and lively neighborhood bar just debuted a new restaurant in the heart of the resort.
The Brasserie, now open at The Deer Path Inn in Lake Forest, took over the space known for nearly a century as The English Room. The hotel described the transformation as a “thoughtful evolution of one of the inn’s most storied dining venues.”
“The Brasserie represents an important evolution for Deer Path Inn,” James Barnett, Deer Path Inn general manager said in a release announcing the news. “For 97 years, our dining spaces have been central to the inn’s identity and a gathering place for the community. The Brasserie honors that legacy while introducing a more vibrant and contemporary spirit. It feels familiar, yet unmistakably new.”
The reinvented dining spot is “designed the around the art of conversation,” the release said. Photos of the new, brighter space show brass accents, smaller marble-topped tables and “rich banquette” seating. Where the more traditional-looking English Room had carpet, white table cloths and large paintings, the Brasserie has warm wood, vintage mirrors and gallery walls, with more than 70 works from British and Chicago-based artists.
“Together, the pieces create a layered salon-style installation that feels collected over time rather than assembled at once,” the release said.

The room is anchored, the Inn said, by a custom pewter bar, crafted by Mitchell & Mitchell of Chicago with bar seating and custom lighting. Overall the room is meant to create a “spirited gathering point for proper drinks and conversation,” the Inn said.
“Guests never have to worry about awkward silence, as they’ll receive a conversation card upon arrival – one short, playful prompt designed to spark dialogue at the table,” the release said. “This pairs with other complimentary and unexpected surprises The Brasserie will share with diners to enjoy mid-conversation.”
The menu for The Brasserie will include both recognizable and seasonal dishes, ranging from seafood towers to Flounder Meunière, and the hotel’s signature Dry-Aged Burger. The restaurant joins the hotel’s other popular dining program, including White Hart Pub, The Bar and Afternoon Tea Service.
The Brasserie will be open starting at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. on the weekends through 10 p.m., serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, drinks and dessert.
