After more than a decade of planning and construction, former President Barack Obama announced the opening date for his Obama Presidential Center in Chicago’s Jackson Park neighborhood on Saturday.
The Center will open to the public on June 19, one day after a dedication ceremony is scheduled to take place.
Located at 6001 S Stony Island Ave., the Center will feature an athletic, programs and events facility, an auditorium, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, a fruit and vegetable garden and more.
A “series of events that will bring together the changemakers, community members, volunteers, and supporters who made the Obama presidency a reality and that welcome visitors to celebrate the power of hope and change” will mark the opening and continue through June 21.
