Smoke filled part of a northwest suburb of Chicago after a downed powerline burnt through a fence in the area Friday afternoon.
Around 12:40 p.m., authorities responded to a downed powerline on the 4300 block of North Neva Avenue in Norridge.
Thick smoke filled the area after the fallen powerline burned through a wooden fence, the Norridge Fire Department said.
The fence appears to be enclosing the yard of Dobbs Pre-School, located at 7131 Pensacola Ave.
A large, singed hole could be seen in the otherwise white fence in video posted by witnesses to social media.
Several police vehicles and fire trucks could also be seen in the area as authorities handled the situation.
Though authorities did not state what caused the powerline to come down, storms moved through the Chicago area Friday morning and into the afternoon, bringing thunder, lighting and heavy rain.
