Earlier on Friday, Packers edge defender Rashan Gary posted a goodbye message to fans on Instagram. It was Gary’s way to share that his time was up in Green Bay. As is often the case, NFL insiders shared the post and added context about what seemed to be his pending departure:

This has to be one of the most hilarious “I was hacked” moments in sports media history. Because, yes, it makes sense that someone would hack your account, share a well-curated “goodbye” message, and share it on your Instagram when you’ve essentially already have one foot out the door. Yep! That makes perfect sense to me!

As of now, Rashan Gary remains with the Packers. He has not been released or traded, but that seems like it is on the cusp of changing soon. According to Over The Cap’s calculations, cutting Gary could create more than $10.978 million in cap savings for the Packers. That number bumps up to $19.5 million if it were a post-June 1 cut. With Green Bay sitting at $4.317 million under the cap, I can understand why the team would want to part ways with Gary and create some more wiggle room to spend.
Once the two sides part ways, the Packers will be saying goodbye to a 2019 first-round pick who collected 46.5 sacks, 111 quarterback hits, and 46 tackles-for-loss in 106 games over seven seasons with Green Bay. Rashan Gary was a Pro Bowl player in 2024 and is just two seasons removed from a 9-sack season in which he picked up 22 quarterback hits. The numbers look solid, but Gary hasn’t quite reached the levels that were expected from him when he was drafted out of Michigan.
