SwimSwam Pulse is a recurring feature tracking and analyzing the results of our periodic A3 Performance Polls. You can cast your vote in our newest poll on the SwimSwam homepage, about halfway down the page on the right side.

Our most recent poll asked SwimSwam readers which relay split from the ACC and SEC Championships stood out as the best:

Question: What was the best relay split from the first week of conference meets?

RESULTS

Liendo, 39.47 (M 100 FR) – 38.5% Liendo, 17.58 (M 50 FR) – 20.8% Germonprez, 49.02 (M 100 BR) – 12.8% Moesch, 45.53 (W 100 FR) – 10.4% Spink/Curtis, 20.46 (W 50 FR) – 6.2% Gorbenko, 25.49 (W 50 BR) – 6.2% Liendo, 42.80 (M 100 FLY) – 5.1%

Josh Liendo has consistently been a relay horse for the University of Florida throughout his collegiate career, and that continued to be the case at last month’s SEC Championships.

The fourth-year senior anchored the Gators in 17.58 en route to a new NCAA record in the men’s 200 medley relay, and also delivered a jaw-dropping 39.47 split on the 400 free relay and the fourth sub-43 fly split of his career on the 400 medley.

In our most recent poll, we asked SwimSwam readers which relay split from the ACC or SEC Championships stood out to them as the best, and Liendo’s three splits earned a combined 64.4% of the votes, with 59.3% of that coming from the top two options.

Leading the poll with 38.5% of votes was Liendo’s 39.47 anchor split in the 400 free relay, which stands as the second-fastest in history, only trailing Jordan Crooks‘ 39.36 leg from the 2025 NCAAs.

That split marked Liendo’s first time under 40 seconds with a takeover, having typically led off Florida’s 400 free relay in the past and done the fly leg on the 400 medley. He has been under 40 from a flat start, however, going 39.99 to win the 2025 NCAA title.

In the same race as Liendo’s 39.47 anchor leg, LSU’s Jere Hribar dropped a 39.84 split on the second leg for the Tigers, which marks the sixth-fastest leg ever.

The #2 option in the poll was Liendo’s 17.58 anchor split on Florida’s 200 medley relay, which guided them to a new NCAA record of 1:20.03. That split marks the fifth-fastest in history, while Hribar was just one one-hundredth slower in 17.59 on LSU’s relay for the sixth-fastest leg ever. Only Caeleb Dressel (17.30), Crooks (17.42, 17.57) and Jonny Kulow (17.56) have split faster.

The top non-Liendo response was Nate Germonprez‘s sizzling 100 breaststroke split on Texas’ 400 medley relay at SECs, as the junior clocked 49.02 to put him nearly half a second under the current flat start American Record of 49.51 held by Julian Smith.

In terms of relay splits, Germonprez’s is the fourth-fastest ever, only trailing Leon Marchand‘s 48.73 and two splits by Smith last season (48.85, 48.95).

The top female relay split in the poll was Anna Moesch‘s 45.53 anchor leg on Virginia’s 400 medley relay at ACCs, which marks the 11th-fastest split in history and ranks her 5th all-time in terms of relay performers, trailing Gretchen Walsh, who owns six of the top seven splits, including the top time of 44.93, Maggie MacNeil (45.26), Simone Manuel (45.45) and Torri Huske (45.46).

Among the other splits in the poll, Camille Spink and Sara Curtis had identical 20.46 50 free splits, tied for the 16th-fastest leg ever, Anastasia Gorbenko dropped the fourth-fastest 50 breast leg ever in 25.49, and Liendo’s 42.80 100 fly split was the fifth-fastest ever and fourth-fastest of his career.
