ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The City of Rochester is kicking off its spring recreation season with more than 100 programs for kids, adults and families.
The Jackson R-Center will be offering open swim sessions, swim lessons, and lifeguard training at their indoor pool, available for all ages.
The R-Center will also be offering free lifeguard certification and recertification courses for Rochester residents. For non-residents, it is $75 for youth and $125 for adults.
A Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course will also be available, which is required for supervisory aquatics positions. It is $175 for city residents and $400 for non-residents.
Recreation for kids and families
From 5-7 p.m. on Fridays, the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center will host “Family Fun Fridays.” There will be games and activities for families to enjoy.
At multiple R-Centers, kids ages 6-12 can learn about the environment, sustainability, and the natural world through the Earth Explorers program.
R-Centers also offer e-gaming for ages 6-17.
Recreation for adults
For adults 18 and older, there is a “Positive Pathways Parenting Support Network,” where people can share experiences and more at the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center.
The Edgerton R-Center will be offering “Dance for Fitness,” where adults can dance to a variety of beats, such as pop or Latin, while also improving stamina and coordination.
For women 18 and up, the Jackson R-Center is offering “She Strikes,” where women can learn to kickbox while also building strength, confidence, and endurance.
R-Stars recreation program
R-Centers across the city also offer “R-Stars,” a free, fun, nurturing environment for kids ages 6-12 after school and over school breaks.
This program runs from September until June. During spring break week, which is Monday, March 31, through Thursday, April 2, select R-Centers will have extended hours.
