For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ohio high school state ‘A’ finalist Ciara Dwyer has announced her commitment to swim at St. Bonaventure University beginning in the fall of 2026. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at St. Bonaventure University!! I would like to thank my family for their endless support and encouragement. I would also like to thank my coaches and teammates for their guidance throughout this decision making process. A huge thank you to Coach Mike for this incredible opportunity and to all of my future teammates for being so welcoming. I cannot wait for what these next few years have to offer. Go Bonnies!!

A senior at Dayton Miami Valley High School in Ohio, Dwyer has been a member of the school’s varsity swim team all four years. She also currently trains year-round with the Dayton Raiders, where she primarily specializes in butterfly and IM.

Dwyer just wrapped up her high school career this past weekend at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division II State Championships. She finished eighth in the 100 fly (58.20) and 10th in the 200 IM (2:12.73), recording new best times in both events. It was her first time making an ‘A’ final at the meet, having finished 11th in the 100 fly (58.77) and 21st in the 200 IM (2:14.74) as a junior, 20th in the 100 fly (1:00.16) and 29th in the 200 IM (2:17.98) as a sophomore, and 30th in both events (1:02.08/2:18.39) as a freshman.

Outside of high school competition, Dwyer’s best meet of the past year was the NCSA Winter Championships in December, where she broke 2:10 in the 200 fly for the first time with a 2:09.73 in prelims before finishing 12th in the final an even quicker 2:09.39. She went on to touch 19th in the 100 fly (58.34) and 39th in the 200 IM (2:14.84), both then-season bests, and clocked a then-season best in the 400 IM as well en route to a 31st-place finish.

A consistent improver, Dwyer has gone a personal best in each of her primary events every season of her career. Over the past year, her biggest jump came in the 400 IM, dropping over three seconds from 4:45.75, while she also took nearly a second off her 200 fly and 200 IM, improving from 2:10.01 and 2:13.53. Her 100 fly saw a smaller, subdued drop from 58.25, but still an improvement nonetheless.

St. Bonaventure, located in New York, is led by fourth-year head coach Mike Smiechowski. The women’s team placed sixth out of 10 teams at the 2026 Women’s Atlantic 10 Championships, a nice rise from its ninth-place finish in 2025.

Based on the results from this season’s conference championships, it took times of 56.20/2:05.39 in the 100/200 fly and 2:06.21/4:32.88 in the 200/400 IM to earn a second swim, putting Dwyer outside the cutoff in each of her top events.

On the team’s 2026-27 depth chart, when factoring in graduations and incoming recruits, Dwyer is projected to rank third in the 100 fly, sixth in the 200 fly, seventh in the 200 IM, and 10th in the 400 IM, making her an immediate contributor in dual meets and potentially a factor on the team’s medley relays down the line.

Currently set to join Dwyer in the pool this fall are Myra Wherry (middle-distance free/IM), Andi Rutledge-Jukes (back/IM), and Corinne Hayes (distance free). Wherry has gone 2:10.44/4:29.69 in the IMs, while Rutledge-Jukes has posted 2:04.17/4:23.12, giving St. Bonaventure a strong IM core in the incoming class.
