On their home court, the third-seeded Silver Knights defeated No. 14 Green Mountain 62-49.
Meanwhile, the 11th-seeded Wizards held on for a thrilling 55-53 road win against sixth-seeded Regis Groff.
With those wins, the two Weld Re-4 School District neighbors are set to meet in the eight-team state quarterfinals at a to-be-determined time Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.
For Severance (22-3) this is uncharted territory. Before Tuesday night, the Silver Knights had never advanced further than the Round of 16 in the school’s seven-year history.
Windsor (18-7), on the other hand, is the defending 5A state champion, and it has been to the quarterfinals now four consecutive years.
The Wizards have won each each of those past three appearances to make it to the semifinals or further.
