ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Mayor Malik Evans has issued a closure order for a short-term rental on Lake Avenue where a recent shooting happened.

Rochester Police say dozens or more teens were gathered for a party at the location on Feb. 28. Officers responded to the shooting around 11:45 p.m. that night.

Officers found one of the victims with at least one upper-body gunshot wound, determined to be life-threatening. An ambulance took him to the hospital.

Police say they also learned that a private car had taken another victim to the hospital, who was shot in the same area.

According to Mayor Evans, one of the victims remains in guarded condition with gunshot wounds to the head.

In the closure order, Evans said the shooting “endangered the neighboring community,” and violated his Gun Violence Proclamation of Emergency, originally issued in July 2022, which has been renewed about every 30 days.

“As the Mayor of the City of Rochester, I hereby order that the premises located at 4302 Lake Avenue in the City of Rochester be closed for all purposes other than strictly residential purposes for the benefit of the current residents and no other persons,” said Evans in the order.

The rental was previously listed on Vrbo and Airbnb, but has since been removed. News10NBC is continuing to follow this story. Check back later for any updates as we learn more.
