The Chicago Bulls are no longer undefeated in March – not after the defending champions, playing without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and other key rotational players, took home the win.
It was always going to be unlikely that Chicago could beat the best team in the NBA, but they managed to make it interesting in both halves, keeping things competitive until the dying moments of the game.
In the grand scheme of things, a competitive Bulls loss is still a win in our books. But seeing the best performances come from players on expiring contracts rather than the “young building blocks” is a little less encouraging.

— Bleacher Nation Bulls (@BN_Bulls) March 4, 2026The Moment the Bulls Lost the Game
It’s always the third quarter, and once again tonight, that’s when Chicago lost this one. After ending the first half down just one, despite poor shooting and sloppy turnovers, Chicago had a real chance to upset the shorthanded Thunder.
The defending champions went on a 12–3 run, with a large chunk of those points coming in the easiest ways possible: free throws and points in the paint. At the same time, two blocks by Chet Holmgren wiped out any momentum the home team was trying to build.

— OKC THUNDER (@okcthunder) March 4, 2026The Bulls were forced to call a timeout and came out of it able to match what the Thunder were doing, but the damage had already been done, the lead had climbed back to 10. And honestly, the Bulls were lucky it was only 10, because the Thunder looked very beatable.
And if that wasn’t enough, both Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis had injury scares, each limping to the locker room at the end of the third quarter with the Thunder up 11. They both returned in the fourth but it was too little, too late.

It was an ugly game offensively to start. The Bulls went 3-of-16 from the field and 2-of-10 from behind the arc to open, while the Thunder shot 4-of-14 and 1-of-5 through the largest stretch of the first quarter. It didn’t take OKC long to finally crack the lid off the rim and build a double-digit advantage over the Chicago Bulls in the opening frame. To the Bulls’ credit, the shots eventually started to fall, and they entered the second quarter down just four.First 8 Shot Attempts for the Bulls vs the Thunder, 7 from the 3. Made just 1. — Bleacher Nation Bulls (@BN_Bulls) March 4, 2026 Turnovers for the Chicago Bulls have been frequent and costly. In the first half alone, they coughed it up 11 times, leading to 12 points off turnovers. It’s not just about the Thunder being a strong defensive team; this has been a recurring issue for the Bulls all season, and it feels even more glaring now. The biggest concern? Eight of the nine players who saw the floor recorded at least one turnover, leaving no real safe hands in Chicago. I mean, just look at this giveaway by Rob Dillingham. Some of these Rob Dillingham turnovers are mind-boggling. He just heel kicked the ball to the Thunder pic.twitter.com/ngAuzeJjBG
— Ricky O'Donnell (@SBN_Ricky) March 4, 2026 After another poor third quarter, the Thunder had all the confidence and momentum they needed to close this game out. They forced even more turnovers, turned them into fast-break points, scored consistently in the paint, and leaned on their bench, holding the advantage over the Chicago Bulls in all of those areas. The steals just won't stop ? pic.twitter.com/A6yYZV4008
— OKC THUNDER (@okcthunder) March 4, 2026 They had six players finish in double figures, with Jaren McCain leading all scorers, while Jaylin Williams posted the best stat line of the night with 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists. OKC was able to coast to the win and hand Chicago its first loss of the month (and probably not the last).Final from the UC. pic.twitter.com/Q1IkHFNRp1
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) March 4, 2026 The Bulls themselves also had six players finish the night in double figures. Collin Sexton and Nick Richards delivered another really strong showing off the bench and were a big reason why the Bulls managed to stay competitive in this matchup. Guerschon Yabusele was the first Bull to reach double digits on the night. The starting big man played aggressively throughout, finishing with a stat line of 18 points and 12 rebounds. After shooting 43% from beyond the arc in his first eight games as a Bull, his last two outings had been a struggle. But tonight, he let those shots fly with a shooter’s confidence and bounced back by hitting 40% on 10 attempts.Guerschon is HOOPING tonight.@yabusele28 | @CHSN_Bulls pic.twitter.com/3AvsI8Arof
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) March 4, 2026 We also saw 21+ minutes each for Rob Dillingham and Leonard Miller. While neither of them turned in an exceptional performance, seeing them out there against elite competition is always a good sign.Full Box Score
