ROCHESTER, N.Y. — La’Davion Leanard, a senior at Vertus High School, is being honored for his leadership.
La’Davion received the Do the Right Thing Award for pushing others to follow his lead inside and outside of the classroom and for his success in the classroom.
La’Davion plans to study physical therapy or strength and conditioning in college. He spoke about what it means to do the right thing.
“Life might be hard, but think about your options. If you do the wrong thing at the wrong time, you can make others think ill of you, but if you do the right thing, you can have more opportunities, more networking, and better opportunities to be better and help your family out if you need it,” he said.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
The Rochester Police Department has held the Do the Right Thing awards since 1995. You can learn more about nominating a student here.
