ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two seniors at Gates Chili High School are being honored for helping a woman after she was injured in her garage.
Brennan Day and Raymond Hagstrom both received the Do the Right Thing Award. One day, while they were riding their bikes, they heard a woman calling for help. They found a woman who had fallen in her garage and was bleeding from her head. That’s when they both jumped into action and made sure to stay with her until the ambulance arrived.
They spoke at the award ceremony, “That’s what we got brought up to do. It’s just been in our morals to do the right thing and help out.”
Phyllis Magri, the woman who Brennan and Raymond helped, thanked them at the ceremony.
“I’m just grateful and just appreciative of all they did. They stayed with me until the ambulance came, and when I came home, they brought me flowers,” she said.
Any student in grades K-12 in a Monroe County school is eligible for a nomination. The good deed must have occurred within one year of the nomination. Anyone over 18 years of age can submit a nomination form, including family, friends, school staff, and coaches.
